WHEREAS:  Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) funding has been distributed to Montana counties that are adversely affected by large federal land holdings for years, and;

WHEREAS: PILT funds replace the loss of property taxes, and;

WHEREAS:  These counties by and large deposit these funds into their general funds rather than distributing them as property taxes, and;

WHEREAS: Conservation Districts and other deserving tax districts don’t receive their share as they would from property taxes,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:  The MACD requests the Montana Association of Counties (MACO) to correct this oversight and assure that PILT funds are distributed in the same manner as the property taxes they replace.
