SUMMARY:CD Outreach Work Group (CDOWG)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor those of you who may be interested in CDOWG working through the process of tracking the special days of recognition (weeks/months too) through the year\, and how we may be able to help provide social media and/or other materials to CDs to alleviate the burden of everyone having to recreate the wheel\,  there will be a subgroup of the CDOWG meeting at our normal CDOWG meeting time in May\, the 24th at 10 am. \nThe goal of this subgroup is to start coming up with a list of as many of the events/dates as we can\, find the links to their resources if they’re already prepared\, and get them on the MACD calendar for CDs to use.  We can also talk about a project that Radley had discussed before—a “what kinds of education projects do all the CDs do?” sort of thing. I did find my old binder that the EO put together years ago\, and have scanned it\, so I have the beginnings of that project.  You should all have received the link to it.  It’s not a comprehensive look at what kinds of things CDs do\, but is a start.  I’ll be happy to help lead that discussion for now\, unless someone else would like to step up! \nContact Tahnee Benson (SheridanCD@macdnet.org) or Eric Rannestad (eric@macdnet.org) for zoom information. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:USDA Funding: Climate Smart Commodities (Funding Pool #2)
DESCRIPTION:USDA to Invest $1 Billion in Climate Smart Commodities\, Expanding Markets\, Strengthening Rural America\nThe U.S. Department of Agriculture is delivering on its promise to expand markets by investing $1 billion in partnerships to support America’s climate-smart farmers\, ranchers and forest landowners. The new Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities opportunity will finance pilot projects that create market opportunities for U.S. agricultural and forestry products that use climate-smart practices and include innovative\, cost-effective ways to measure and verify greenhouse gas benefits. USDA is now accepting project applications for fiscal year 2022. \n“America’s farmers\, ranchers\, and forest owners are leading the way in implementing climate-smart solutions across their operations\,” said Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Conservationist Tom Watson in Montana. “Through Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities\, USDA will provide targeted funding to meet national and global demand and expand market opportunities for climate-smart commodities to increase the competitive advantage of American producers. We want a broad array of agriculture and forestry to see themselves in this effort\, including small and historically underserved producers as well as early adopters.” \nFor the purposes of this funding opportunity\, a climate-smart commodity is defined as an agricultural commodity that is produced using agricultural (farming\, ranching or forestry) practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions or sequester carbon. \nFunding will be provided to partners through the USDA’s Commodity Credit Corporation for pilot projects to provide incentives to producers and landowners to: \n\nImplement climate-smart production practices\, activities\, and systems on working lands.\nMeasure/quantify\, monitor and verify the carbon and greenhouse gas (GHG) benefits associated with those practices.\nDevelop markets and promote the resulting climate-smart commodities.\n\nHow to Apply\nThe primary applicant must be an entity\, not an individual. A range of public and private entities may apply\, including: \n\nCounty\, city or township governments\nSpecial district governments\nState governments\nSmall businesses\nFor profit organizations other than small businesses\nNative American tribal governments (Federally recognized)\nNative American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)\nNonprofits having a 501(c)(3) (other than institutions of higher education)\nNonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) (other than institutions of higher education)\nPrivate institutions of higher education\, or\nPublic and State-controlled institutions of higher education.\n\nFunding will be provided in two funding pools\, and applicants must submit their applications via Grants.gov by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on: \n\nApril 8\, 2022\, for the first funding pool (proposals from $5 million to $100 million)\, and\nMay 27\, 2022\, for the second funding pool (proposals from $250\,000 to $4\,999\,999).\n\nProposals must provide plans to: \n\nPilot implementation of climate-smart agriculture and/or forestry practices on a large-scale\, including meaningful involvement of small and/or historically underserved producers.\nQuantify\, monitor\, report and verify climate results.\nDevelop markets and promote climate-smart commodities generated as a result of project activities.\n\nUSDA is committed to equity in program delivery and is specifically seeking proposals from entities serving all types of producers\, including small or historically underserved producers. Providing sufficient incentives to encourage producer participation and generating both verifiable greenhouse gas reduction and carbon sequestration benefits are critical to project success and will be considered in the evaluation criteria. \nMore Information\nVisit usda.gov/climate-smart-commodities for additional information\, including details on Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities and resources to support your application. Get more information from a virtual meeting hosted Wednesday\, Feb. 16\, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET. This webinar will focus on the details of the funding opportunity. Recordings will be available after the event. \nUSDA published a Request for Information in September 2021 seeking public comment and input on design of this new initiative and used the nearly 400 comments received to inform this funding opportunity.
