SUMMARY:Neighboring Through Drought Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Neighboring Through Drought Webinar\nMarch 19 \n12:00PM-01:00PM  \nThe third webinar of WLA’s 2025 Water Webinar series will highlight the successes and challenges of community-scale solutions to water sharing during times of drought. What works? What doesn’t? And what do landowners need to know about developing community-led solutions? Our panel of landowners\, policy experts\, and regional NGO partners will tackle these questions\, and many more. \nJoin us to learn more about how these programs work\, what they mean for landowners and water users\, and how they could play a role in sustaining working lands and watersheds. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Maximizing Marginal Croplands Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Maximizing Marginal Croplands: Case Studies in Successful Land Management Practices that Drive Efficiency\, Profitability and Biodiversity\nMarch 20  \n11:00AM-12:30PM  \nHabitat creation does more than improve biodiversity on your farm or ranch. It nurtures an ecosystem that benefits your pest control\, improves water quality and availability\, reduces input costs and ultimately creates a more resilient and productive agricultural system. \nJoin CTIC\, Syngenta\, Second Century Habitat Fund\, Precision Risk Management\, and South Dakota Game\, Fish and Parks for a discussion with agronomists\, biologists\, landowners and others who have helped to make marginal lands work\, and learn how to get resources and support in evaluating your acres. In preparation for our Conservation in Action Tour in Sioux Falls May 6-7\, we’ll explore South Dakota’s unique programs and technical assistance support that contribute to producers’ whole-farm management strategies and the state’s dedication to protecting its strong outdoor heritage\, unique bird populations and ecosystems for today and future generations. We’ll also explore farm management strategies in South Dakota with a focus on weed control in no-till or conservation tillage systems. Learn how successful herbicide and fungicide programs – combined with conservation tillage – contribute to plant health\, soil conservation\, and moisture retention. Learn how producers manage region-specific challenges\, such as prevent plant scenarios and severe drought\, and how to successfully integrate cover crops with pesticide programs for optimal weed suppression and soil conservation to mitigate weather and environmental risk. \nSpeakers include: Kevin Robling\, South Dakota Secretary of Game\, Fish and Parks; Mary Sutton Carruthers\, Stewardship Manager at Syngenta\, CTIC Board member; Aaron Kromann\, Agronomy Service Representative\, Syngenta; Elysabeth Kierl\, Executive Director\, Second Century Habitat Fund; John Mayrose\, Private Lands Habitat Biologist\, South Dakota Game\, Fish and Parks; Melvin Gimbel\, Wolf Creek Ranch\, Ree Heights\, S.D.; Cristin Weber\, Data Strategy Manager\, Precision Risk Management. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Project Level Fuels Management Using QWRA Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Project Level Fuels Management Planning Using Quantitative Wildfire Risk Assessment in IFTDSS\nMarch 26  \n11:00AM-12:30PM  \nConducting a Quantitative Wildfire Risk Assessment (QWRA) can make land management decisions more effective by characterizing the predicted benefits and threats from fire on several\, often overlapping\, values across your landscape. This information can be used to plan fuel treatments\, pre-plan suppression response\, design fire effects monitoring programs\, and other related management activities on a landscape while accounting for the predicted benefits and threats from fire and the relative importance of different landscape values. A QWRA combines the likelihood of fire occurring\, the intensity when fire occurs\, and the effects of fire on the things we care about.  LANDFIRE data is integral to characterizing fuels and vegetation to model the likelihood and intensity of predicted fire within a QWRA. IFTDSS includes a workflow to make the QWRA process manageable and time efficient. \nClick here to register. \n  \n  \n
