DESCRIPTION:Eastern Health Snail Meeting\nSeptember 12\, 2024 \n06:00pm-08:00pm  \nEagles Lodge  \n124 W Main Street  \nLewistown\, MT  \nEastern Heath Snails Identified in Lewistown\nLewistown\, M.T.  The Fergus Conservation District announced the detection of Eastern Heath Snails (Xerolenta obvia) in the Lewistown area. This is the first detection of the snail in Fergus County. This invasive species\, native to Europe\, poses a potential threat to local agriculture and natural habitats. \nThe USDA – Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed the discovery after a report was sent to the Montana Invasive Species Council in late July. Additionally\, FWP has received feedback about congestion on waterways and at access sites. While most agree on the importance of protecting aquatic and terrestrial resources\, opinions vary on the best methods for managing river recreation. \nAs stewards of these public resources\, FWP is committed to gathering broad public input to ensure sound management of these resources and opportunities.
