SUMMARY:Habitat Leasing Through Grassland CRP
DESCRIPTION:Habitat Leasing Through Grassland CRP\nApril 24 12:00PM-1:00PM \nJoin Western Landowners Alliance and national experts to learn about habitat leasing through Grassland Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). Grassland CRP is a voluntary\, working lands program managed through the Farm Service Agency (FSA) that contracts with producers and operators to protect grassland\, including rangeland\, pastureland\, and wildlife habitat while also maintaining the areas as grazing lands. In return for maintaining the grazing lands according to an NRCS-approved management plan\, the FSA pays producers annual rental payments and cost share assistance while allowing livestock production activities to continue. FSA bases rental rates on 75 percent of the cash rent data provided by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) plus a climate- smart practice incentive. While the signup period has not yet been announced\, the exact rental rates and program details for each state and county will be available when the sign up period opens this spring. During the webinar\, we will cover who qualifies\, how to apply\, how the program works\, what is required of the landowner or producer and general program details. \nOur expert panelists include:\n\nPatrick Lewis\, FSA Acting Grassland CRP Program Manager;\nKatrina Thompson\, NRCS National CSP Program Manager;\nChris Robinson\, Wyoming Landowner and CEO and co-owner of The Ensign Group\nMathew Stark\, California Producer\n\nZoom Registration Here \nMore Information Here

SUMMARY:Conservation Outcomes Web Series
DESCRIPTION:Conservation Outcomes Web Series: Emerging Findings on the Effects of Cover Crops on Grassland Birds\nApril 25  12:00pm-1:00pm \nAs the use of cover crops to improve soil health and reduce water quality concerns on working cropland has increased in recent years\, questions have emerged regarding the value of cover crops to wildlife. For example\, do cover crops provide needed habitat for grassland birds\, a group that has experienced widespread population decline in recent decades? What is the value of cover crop fields to grassland birds during the winter\, spring migration\, and breeding periods compared to cropland fields without cover crops or areas of perennial cover? \nDr. Adam Janke of Iowa State University and Dr. David Buehler of the University of Tennessee will provide answers to these questions and more during our free\, one-hour Conservation Outcomes Webinar. This webinar will share findings from recent studies examining bird use of cover crops in Iowa and Tennessee conducted in partnership with USDA’s Conservation Effects Assessment Project. Findings may be used to support on-the-ground cropland management decisions informed by a better understanding of the potential role of cover crops in grassland bird conservation efforts. \nMore Information \n  \nJoin Meeting Below  \nJoin Teams Meeting \nYou may also join via audio only: \nPhone Number: 202-650-0123\nPhone Conference ID: 554 587 395#
