SUMMARY:Learn Firsthand Winter Grazing Techniques from Sieben Livestock
DESCRIPTION:Learn Firsthand Winter Grazing Techniques from Sieben Livestock’s 20 Years of Experience \nCooper Hibbard\, from Sieben Livestock\, located near Cascade\, Montana\, will be hosting four winter grazing sessions on January 22nd\, February 15th\, March 15th\, and April 15th.  \nThese full-day on-site workshops will cover every thing you need to set up a regenerative grazing system on your ranch. With over 20 years of winter grazing knowledge\, Cooper will walk you through:  \n\nEstimating feed available and stocking capacity \nForage production\, budgeting\, and allocation \nAssessing range and soil condition/health \nCattle behavior\, condition/health\, genetic considerations\, grazing habits\, and herd instinct • Winter strategies to water availability and distance \nSupplemental and replacement feeding  \nPlanning and practical experience making a move \nHow will these impact and be implemented on summer pasture \n\nThere is so much more you will take away from these workshops. It’s one thing to talk about how to implement  these techniques continually\, but it’s a whole other ballgame actually to see it working on the ground. The cost  of one workshop is $150 per person\, with each additional ranch employee/owner only $75. For those who at tended the workshops last year and would like to join again\, the cost is also $75. Checks can be mailed to  Sieben Live Stock Co.\, 2469 Adel Road\, Cascade\, MT 59421  \n“It was amazing to see firsthand how differently cattle behaved and how  well the grass responded to this management style. I picked up plenty of  practical information I could apply right away on my place\,”   \n– Ron Halverson\, Halverson Ranch Big Timber\, Montana  \nContact Cooper for more information and to register. cooper@siebenlivestock.com

SUMMARY:NACD 2021 Urban Agriculture Conservation Grants
DESCRIPTION:NACD 2021 Urban Agriculture Conservation Grants\nNACD is accepting applications for their Urban Agriculture Conservation (UAC) Grants\, and CDs from states in the Northern Plains region (which includes Montana!) are especially encouraged to apply. NACD wants CDs/communities from all regions to benefit from this funding\, and so far CDs located in these regions have received the smallest percentage of UAC grants. \nAdditionally\, NACD launched a new UAC grant option this year. CDs may still apply for the traditional UAC implementation grants (up to $50K)\, and NACD added a second planning grant option. Planning grants (up to $10K) are for CDs in early stages of exploring urban/community conservation work and who could use some funding to support efforts such as developing partnerships or conducting a community needs assessment. The idea is these planning grants would position CDs to be more effective in their long-term efforts and more competitive for an eventual UAC implementation grant. \n\nMore info and the application are available on the NACD website: https://www.nacdnet.org/about-nacd/what-we-do/urban-and-community/\nRequest for proposals: https://www.nacdnet.org//srv/htdocs/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/UAC-FY2022-RFP-1.pdf\nContact: Ariel Rivers\, NACD Pacific Region Rep (ariel-rivers@nacdnet.org)

SUMMARY:Area 1 Soil Corps Discussion Forum
DESCRIPTION:Area 1 Soil Corps Discussion Forums\nThe Discussion Forums invite Conservation Districts and other partner organizations to have a conversation around building soil health capacity in our respective regions. Specifically\, is there a need for a Soil Corps program in Montana and what might that look like? Many districts operate on a lean budget\, so how can an AmeriCorps member add value to your already strapped team? What kind of projects does your community need assistance with? Many districts and organizations have spoken via survey about what their region’s needs are in regards to potential soil health projects they could use more help with\, whether that’s actual soil sampling\, help with outreach\, grant writing\, help with soil assessments\, etc. We will focus these discussions on the opportunities and barriers of hosting a member. Please join us for an in-person discussion at the following Conservation Districts. Partner organizations outside of districts are welcome to attend. \nArea 1Valley County CD is hosting Thurs Feb 3\, 10AM-Noon

SUMMARY:Area 2 Soil Corps Zoom Discussion Forum
DESCRIPTION:Area 2 Soil Corps Zoom Discussion Forum\n\n\nThanks to all that were able to make the Soil Corps Discussion Forums in Ennis\, Missoula\, Great Falls\, and Glasgow the past couple of weeks. I have scheduled a Zoom option for Area 2 & 4 next week if you are interested in weighing in about the potential for a Soil Corps AmeriCorps program in Montana. Please RSVP as soon as possible here if you plan to attend. Thanks.\n\nArea 2: Wednesday\, Feb 23 9-11AM\n\nThe Discussion Forums invite Conservation Districts and other partner organizations to have a conversation around building soil health capacity in our respective regions. Please join us for a Zoom discussion. Partner organizations outside of districts are welcome to attend.
